The Power of Peer Support: Fostering Wellbeing, Community, and Performance in the Workplace

In today’s fast-paced and often remote work environments, fostering a sense of belonging and support is crucial for employee wellbeing and productivity. While traditional mentorship programs and managerial guidance are valuable, there’s an often-overlooked gem in the workplace toolkit: peer-to-peer… Read More »The Power of Peer Support: Fostering Wellbeing, Community, and Performance in the Workplace

Why is company culture worth investing in?

At Indigo, we use mentoring as a tool to make culture a daily habit in your organisation, supporting employee wellbeing, improving team dynamics and turning your company into a community. But why is it all so important?

Companies with a robust culture have up to 72% higher employee engagement rates than those whose cultures need improvement.

Company culture is an increasingly valuable asset for any business hoping to attract, and retain, top talent. As younger generations begin to dominate the workforce, we’re seeing more and more that the environment in which they work is a top priority, rivalling even how much they get paid.

For businesses, company culture has become far more than just a popular buzz phrase or interesting angle for corporate responsibility. It’s become a deciding factor in how well they’re perceived by the workforce.

65% of UK employees state that they would like to feel a strong sense of belonging at work.

At Indigo, we believe that people work hard for their community, not a corporation. By building a community within your workforce, and encouraging them to work together towards achieving a shared sense of purpose, you’re creating an environment which your people are proud to work hard for, as well as making them more motivated to perform.

When teams work well together, both team performance and individual performance improves – and employees are more than 50% more effective.

Improving team dynamics within your organisation means:

  • Encouraging positive and supportive working relationships within your team.
  • Providing space and opportunities for your team to collaborate and learn from each other.
  • Building a sense of community that inspires company loyalty and improved performance.

When your team is given the tools to work effectively together, this has a direct impact on individual productivity, team effectiveness and overall organisational performance.

Got a question?

Who is Indigo for?

Indigo creates bespoke platforms to help any organisation transform their people into a connected, cohesive community. We find this works best for businesses, corporations and employers with 100+ staff members. You could be:

  • The Team Leader for a small to medium-sized enterprise.
  • An HR Manager for a business or enterprise.
  • A Learning and Development specialist working within larger organisations.
  • A community manager or in another role centred around coordinating a team.

However, the platform was designed to connect communities for the purpose of mutual learning and development, which means it can be used in lots of other areas aside from a workplace setting. If you work for a training organisation or education provider we’d love to hear from you, too.

Is Indigo an app?

Indigo platforms are accessible via a web application that can be integrated with whichever existing tech infrastructures you already have in place.

The decision to keep the platform web-based, rather than opt for the traditional app format, was intentional. When your people log into Indigo, we want it to feel like an existing extension of your organisation’s online presence – this means keeping your branding the same, using the language of your organisation and not requiring users to log in to an entirely separate application.

A key aspect of community building is helping your people feel like they belong, which is why syncing Indigo platforms with the brand presence your people are already familiar with is so important to us.

Do you provide the mentors?

Indigo was designed to facilitate internal mentoring, collaboration and communication – we don’t provide external mentors.

Whilst external consultancy can be useful in some instances, we believe the best way to foster a community mindset and build relationships within your organisation is to give your people the tools to help each other. That way, you get all of the benefits of mentoring support (professional and personal development, upskilling and increased engagement) whilst also building your company’s culture in a meaningful way.

Invite members

We use single sign on to automatically integrate our software with your existing online infrastructure, whether that’s a work email system or virtual learning environment. You can also take advantage of our handy communications resources to help attract, enrol and engage your members.

Match participants

We don’t believe in wasting time manually matching users with mentors. Our AI-led matching algorithm connects users with the best mentor for them based on factors of your choice, such as the course they study or the department they work in. Users can opt to chat to the same mentor always, or different mentors for different queries.

Users can also choose their own mentor by searching our member directory for key words relating to their individual needs or concerns. This could be anything from ‘LGBTQ+ support’ to ‘IT query’.

Build engagement

Taking mentoring online increases user engagement by making support more accessible, but we don’t stop there. The Indigo review function enables every mentor to build positive feedback from the people they help, based on the skills that matter to them. This is tangible data that can be used to aid professional development, grow their skillset and even give you useful insights for promotions.

Monitor interactions

We want every mentoring ecosystem built with Indigo to be a safe, secure and supportive environment, and our monitoring system was built to ensure quality control with every interaction.

The system works by enabling all participants to quickly and simply ‘report’ a conversation that made them uncomfortable or unsure. This sends an alert direct to your inbox, enabling you to review a transcript of the conversation and take the same disciplinary action you would if the conversation happened in the office.

Measure impact

We know that a good mentoring program doesn’t just benefit the individual users. It has a positive impact at organisational level, too.

Using our admin portal you can measure the impact of mentoring on your team. This includes tracking usage levels, learning more about popular topics discussed and gaining valuable insight into your members’ performance.
